Liposuction in Phoenix Arizona

At last! A trimmer, healthier, better-looking body can be yours! Imagine having the body you’ve always wanted. What would it mean to you if you never wanted to turn away from a full-length mirror again? Or how great it would feel to not come home empty-handed from a trip to the mall?

Well it’s all possible. In fact, Dr. Richard Fisher has helped many people just like you feel more confident, secure, and just plain delighted with their bodies. Many of those people didn’t think anything would help. The decision to have liposuction can change your life forever.

Why Diet and Exercise Often Fail

Let’s face it. You can jog on the treadmill for hours … starve yourself on the latest “fad” diet … and still not have the figure you want.

Those “bulges” and trouble spots still refuse to go away. And to make matters worse, they probably never will. You see, after the age of 30, the amount of fat you gain and where you gain it is largely due to your genetics.

This kind of fat is notoriously stubborn and doesn’t usually respond to exercise or dieting. This means you can run on the treadmill until you’re blue in the face and it still won’t make much difference.

But There is a Solution.

Instead of trying to hide your stubborn hips, stomach, arms, “love handles”, thighs, or butt, you can do something about it—permanently!

Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing the body you’ve always wanted. Picture how great you would feel about yourself.

Wouldn’t that be fantastic?

Well, that’s what liposuction can do for you. Every day hundreds of people are turning to liposuction as their solution—a way to achieve that trimmer, healthier, better-looking body for good. Only liposuction can remove your fat permanently.

But, what you may not know is that there is a new, easier way to have liposuction done under safer local anesthesia. Notwithstanding this tremendous advance, many surgeons continue to ignore this technique and use riskier general anesthesia.

This technique is virtually pain-free and recovery time is quick. In many cases, you can return to work in two to three days. There are no large incisions to heal, rarely any scarring and very little bruising.

But Before I Tell You More About This Technique, Let Me Explain About Liposuction In A Little More Detail…

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or liposculpture, is the surgical removal of excess fat from fatty deposits between the skin and the muscles beneath. Developed in the early 1980’s by doctors, liposuction has become one of the best methods to eliminate unwanted body fat and achieve more desirable body proportions.

Because of its safety and effectiveness, liposuction has become the most common cosmetic procedure done today. In fact, just last year in the United States alone, over 300,000 people underwent liposuction.

The procedure is done by making tiny incisions (about 1/4 inch long) in the area where the fat is to be removed. Then a hollow, blunt-tipped instrument known as a cannula is inserted through the incisions and connected to a suction machine.

As the cannula is moved back and forth by the surgeon, fat is drawn out through the cannula by suction while the skin above remains unharmed.

The skin above the area where fat was removed by suctioning tightens as it heals creating a pleasing and desirable body contour.

In many cases, although little weight is actually lost through liposuction, dramatic changes in your body shape occur. Liposuction is a contouring procedure and not a means of losing weight.

Now before we go on, I want to see if you can relate to some of the concerns others had before deciding to have liposuction. See if any of these sound familiar:

“I always thought if I exercised more my saddlebags would disappear. Unfortunately, no matter how many toning tapes I tried or how often I ran on the treadmill those bulges wouldn’t budge. I wasn’t desperate for an amazing body—I just wanted to feel better about myself.”

“I exercised faithfully for eight years—putting in hours on the StairMaster, lifting weights, and doing more squats that any human alive. It was horribly frustrating to put so much energy into exercising and see so few changes in my lower body.”

“Until recently, I dreaded getting up in front of people, knowing they were thinking, “She’s pretty—but what a big butt”…I wasn’t grossly overweight, but shopping was pure torture because my thighs, butt, and hips were so big. For several years I worked hard to slim down: I walked a couple of miles three or four times every week. I did tons of lunges and squats because I wanted to tone my legs and butt... Last year I came home from a five hour shopping trip empty-handed. I then decided that I had to do something about my body.”

Do Any Of These Stories Sound Painfully Familiar To You?

Maybe you are thinking those same thoughts right now and wondering if your body is right for liposuction…

Who Are The Best Candidates For Liposuction?

First, you should know that liposuction can benefit both men and women.. There is no definite age or weight limit for liposuction.

A good candidate for liposuction is within 20-30 pounds of his or her ideal weight and in good health.

What if you don’t quite fit these guidelines? Don’t worry. We have had remarkable success in helping those who are quite obese improve selected problem areas.

It is very important to have realistic expectations as to exactly what liposuction can and cannot do. Although liposuction can often result in remarkable improvement in your figure, it cannot achieve perfection. Additionally, skin with a rippled or dimpled surface (cellulite) usually cannot be improved with liposuction.

No two people will respond the same way to liposuction, even if they have similar physical appearances. Considerations, such as your skin condition, underlying bone structure, location and amount of fat to be removed, personal health habits will all contribute to the final results.

What’s more I probably don’t need to tell you this, but I will anyway: Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, nor is it a replacement for proper exercise and diet.

Now let’s discuss the most common liposuction techniques used by doctors today:

The Tumescent Liposuction Technique:

The tumescent technique developed by a dermatologist in the late 1980’s revolutionized liposuction. Using this technique, liposuction can be performed safely and comfortably under local anesthesia in the doctor’s office.

The tumescent technique consists of using large volumes of sterile saline solution with very small amounts of lidocaine (a numbing agent) and epinephrine (a drug which temporarily constricts the blood vessels to prevent bleeding). This fluid is gently injected under the skin into the targeted areas of fat, numbing the area and constricting the blood vessels to reduce bleeding and bruising.

The large amount of diluted local fluid injected into the fatty tissue will cause the tissue to become swollen and firm (tumescent). Then a very slender tube or cannula (2.0-5.0mm in diameter) is introduced into the fatty area through tiny incisions and as described previously attached to a suction machine for removal of the fat. The incisions are so small that they heal by themselves without any stitching and virtually disappear over time.

Since these cannulas are very small in diameter, they require only a minimum of force to place them inside the fatty tissue allowing the surgeon to control direction and position of them more precisely. This helps you end up with smoother, better results without any irregularities.

And Here's What Those Same Women Said After Having Tumescent Liposuction Done:

“I love my new body and I’m wearing clothes I wouldn’t have been caught dead in a year ago. My husband tells me I look great, and he’s ecstatic that I no longer stand in front of my closet and say, “I can’t go out! I have nothing to wear!”

“Some people might assume liposuction gives you the freedom to be lazy. That wasn’t the case with me. Dropping two sizes gave me new motivation to work out and eat right. These days I love to hike and bike. I exercise at least 3 days a week”

“Once I decided to have surgery, I didn’t hide the fact from my friends. Actually, at the office, I bragged about how the lumps of fat on both sides of my thighs disappeared immediately… I’m a size 10 now and I’m so much more confident. It feels great not to have to try so hard to look good. I’m a regular at the gym and I’ve been in-line skating and biking with my sisters. I’m not ultra skinny, but finally, I feel normal.”

Here Are Some Of The Most Frequently Asked Questions I Get:

Q. How Much Fat Is Removed?

A. Enough fat is removed from each site operated on to give a desirable contour. The actual amount varies from site to site, and person to person. Sometimes as little as one ounce of fat removed from the neck can make a dramatic change in appearance. On the other hand, liposuction of the torso may yield as much as a gallon or more of fat.

Q. How Soon Before The Results Of Liposuction Are Noticeable?

A. Most people can notice a substantial improvement in their body contour within a day. However, the tumescent anesthetic injected to “numb” the area sculpted takes about two days to drain and absorb and postoperative swelling can briefly obscure the results. By six weeks, ninety percent of the healing and remodeling of the fat compartment operated on and contraction of the skin over this area has occurred. Your new figure at this time is just about what it will be, although improvements can continue for up to a year following the procedure.

Remember, although the results of liposuction are often excellent, it’s not realistic to expect perfection. For instance, liposuction of the thighs will improve their contour considerably, but usually will not remove “cellulite.” Preexisting stretch marks, dimples, and ripples in the skin usually remain unchanged following liposuction. It is the ability of the skin to contract following liposuciton that determines the final outcome, and this varies from person to person.

Q. Are There Any Scars After Liposuction?

A. No. When using the tumescent technique, the incisions made to introduce the cannulas are so small that they rarely require any stitches and the majority of our patients find that these tiny incisions disappear entirely within several months.

Q. Does The Fat Ever Come Back To The Treated Areas?

A. The fat cells that are removed will never return. As long as there is no excessive weight gain, your new figure will be permanent. If you do gain a great deal of weight anytime after liposuction, that weight will generally accumulate in those areas not treated by liposuction.

Q. Does Liposuction Hurt? Will I Have Much Pain After The Procedure?

A. Liposuction done by using the tumescent technique is almost completely painless. After surgery, there can be mild to moderate soreness or aching for several days. The post-operative pain is similar to the pain you feel the day following a hard workout and is easily controlled by the pain pills prescribed. Severe pain after surgery is very rare.

Q. When Can I Resume My Regular Activities?

A. You can resume activities after tumescent liposuction within as little as two days. It is best however, to give yourself adequate time to recover and this depends on how large of a procedure you undergo. Many surgeons encourage their patients to be as active as possible so as to promote the drainage of the tumescent fluid and to minimize swelling. We like our patients to take a long walk on the day after surgery. Those participating in heavy lifting, weight training, and competitive athletics should consult their physician prior to resuming these activities.

In general, after a major liposuction procedure you should reserve at minimum four days for recovery before returning to a sedentary job and two to three weeks before resuming heavy activity.

Q. What Complications And Risks Are Possible?

A. Just like any surgical procedure there are certain risks involved. However, tumescent liposuction is one of the safest cosmetic surgical procedures performed. You can expect some swelling, bruising, numbness in the operated areas. Rarely, fluid or blood pockets can form under the skin and have to be drained.

Other complications such as infection, heavy blood loss, skin loss, blood clots and even cardiac arrest while possible, rarely occur. The use of local anesthesia as opposed to general anesthesia, careful pre-operative evaluation, close monitoring of vital signs during surgery, meticulous sterile technique all serve to ensure your safety and greatly reduce any possibility of complications.

Q. Is There Anything Special To Do Before And After Surgery?

A. Pre-operatively, a careful medical history and physical examination along with some basic blood work are required. Patients should avoid certain medications that may cause excessive bleeding such as aspirin. Post-operatively, patients must wear a special garment that we will order for you. These garments are worn for up to a month depending on the area suctioned. Tight but comfortable, they compress the skin over the area liposuctioned, ensuring proper remodeling and skin contraction.

Q. Is it True That Most Liposuction Patients Must Have Second Surgeries Or Touch Up Procedures?

A. Only about 5% of the patients have secondary surgeries to correct uneven contouring. In our practice any touch-up procedures are done for a modest set-up fee only. The surgery itself is done for free. The majority of patients undergoing a second surgery do so because they are so pleased with the results of the first one that they want additional areas done.

Q. What Is The Cost Of Liposuction? Is It Covered By My Health Insurance?

A. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery and such is not covered by health insurance. The charge for this procedure varies according to the size and number of areas on which liposuction is performed and consequently, the work involved. We accept most major credit cards and depending on your credit, we can arrange financing for you.

Most of our patients consider the cost of liposuction an important investment in themselves, one that they will enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Q. How Do I Choose A Qualified Physician To Do My Liposuction?

A. Many different specialists now perform liposuction including: plastic surgeons, dermatologists, gynecologists, general surgeons, family physicians. Etc. Having one type of specialist perform liposuction doesn’t necessarily ensure you will get a good result. Your surgeon should have completed additional specialized training in liposuction. He or she should have considerable experience in the procedure and willing not only to show you before and after photographs, but also to refer to his or her actual patients who have undergone liposuction.

Choose a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable, someone who listens to your concerns and is easy to talk with. Most important of all, be convinced that he or she places your safety above all else. Ultimately, the decision to have liposuction and who should do it is a personal one. No one can decide for you.

Why Choose Us To Perform Your Liposuction?

I personally have gone to extraordinary lengths to obtain the best training available in liposuction. I have trained both in Europe and in this country to ensure that my patients not only have a safe and pleasant experience, but also achieve optimal results. I am a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, a fellow of the European Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and a member of International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons.  Every year I attend as many workshops and conferences as is possible to constantly upgrade my knowledge and skills.  Our facility is accredited by the AAAHC. As of the time of this writing, I have successfully completed over two thousand liposuction surgeries on over ten thousand separate body areas with extremely high patient satisfaction and without any significant complications.

We do liposuction using the tumescent technique entirely under local anesthesia with mild supplemental sedation in a strictly sterile operating room environment. General anesthesia is not used. Our patients are awake and comfortable throughout the procedure.

In addition, we do one very simple thing during liposuction that almost no one else does to afford our patients the best cosmetic results possible: Towards the end of the procedure, we stand you up and see how you look. We then correct any noticeable imperfections that occur from the effects of gravity. Our “stand and correct” process is repeated until we are one hundred percent satisfied with our results. This one simple improvement to the tumescent liposuction technique, (impossible under general anesthesia or twilight sleep), makes all the difference.

We are constantly evaluating and adopting those innovations that can improve our results, and enhance patient safety and comfort. We were one of the first in Arizona to use the reciprocating cannula, a mechanical device that vibrates the tip of the cannula at high speed allowing it to glide through the tissue reducing injury to them. Patients undergoing tumescent liposuction using this device, experience significantly less bruising and swelling post-operatively. This is known as Power Assisted Liposuction or PAL.

As soon as it achieved FDA approval for use in liposuction, we purchased the Erchonia diode laser, a low level or cool laser. After the tumescent fluid is placed in the area to be liposuctioned, we shine the Erchonia laser over that area, an entirely painless process. Scientific studies have shown and our experience has confirmed that the light from this laser enhances the ease of fat removal, and reduces pain and swelling immediately following the procedure.

* * *

My experience in liposuction is extensive and my results are excellent. See for yourself. Review our before and after photographs. And if you wish, we will arrange for you to speak with patients who have undergone liposuction at our office.

Liposuction is a wonderful procedure. While it’s no magic formula for happiness, it’s hard to find a cosmetic procedure that makes people feel so good about themselves, something that can be done so easily, safely, and affordably.

I really enjoy helping people improve their figures and their self-image with liposuction. And I’m intensely proud of both my results and my safety record. So if you are considering liposuction, come in for a complimentary consultation and let’s talk about it.
